THE STATUE OF DOROBANT

The importance of the military events that led to the independence, led to the erection in 1907, in the central park of a commemorative monument known as the “Statue of Dorobanț”. Created by the Florentine sculptor Raffaello Romaneli, the sculpture is an infantry soldier. On the base of the monument are two bas-reliefs, illustrating battle scenes and an eagle with outstretched wings carrying in its claws a “charter” with the names of the heroes from Teleorman County who fell on the front during the war of independence. On either side of the monument are two Turkish cannons captured by Romanian soldiers at Pleven.

The monument was relocated to the park that today bears the name of infantry soldier i.e., “Tudorică Dorobanțul” Park.

The full description, if any, can be read below on the page.
